About Sheerness

Sheerness is situated on the Isle of Sheppey, in Kent. It was the formerly the site of a naval dockyard, established by Samuel Pepys.

It has a population of 11,000, who are well served by a selection of good local schools and an attractive town centre.

Sheerness has a proud reputation, but was hard hit when the naval dockyards were closed down in 1960. But since then the port has bounced back and is now the largest port in the UK for motor imports.

Sheerness can also be proud of its clean beaches, winning a number of the prestigious Blue Flag awards. The town will also be benefiting from improved links to and from the isle with the  new trunk road from Stockbury to Sheppey.
